Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Louisa County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or contact submission may be kept as long as needed to respond. We limit access to our team and do not disclose the message beyond the organization unless the law requires us to do so.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads a page, the server automatically receives basic technical information about that visit:
- Date and time information for page requests
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Pages opened and the time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers combine that activity into broader usage reports. A browser can block cookies through its settings, although disabling them may change how some site features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a submitted query to the appropriate search partner
- Finding and correcting performance or technical problems
- Measuring which resources visitors use and where improvements are needed
- Operating the site reliably and keeping pages responsive
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Louisa County Criminal History neither maintains nor sells a database of personal criminal records. Its reference material identifies official custodians, including Louisa County courts, the Sheriff's Records Department, the Virginia Department of State Police Criminal Justice Information Services Division and Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-record files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information entered there is handled under the provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Louisa County offices, Virginia court systems, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy rules apply. Check those rules before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may use activity from more than one website to select ads. That processing occurs through the provider's systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. It may be available to the following limited recipients:
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
- Advertising networks that deliver ads on the pages
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and site operation
- Search providers that process queries a visitor submits
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures are used to protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee complete security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with a visitor's place of residence and the law that applies. Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, Code §§ 2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to qualifying records held by Virginia public bodies. Separately, Code § 19.2-389 limits dissemination of criminal-history information from the state repository. Those statutes govern official records and do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Object to certain forms of processing where a legal right applies
- Request deletion of eligible personal data
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Seek a copy of personal information kept about the visitor
